Sonic Frontier It’s only just come out, but according to game director Morio Kishimoto, there’s still some work to be done.
This is our first new 3D Sonic game in five years, and depending on your opinion, Sonic Frontiers is either a huge step forward, or it just isn’t for you. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that the game doesn’t always run the best, especially on the Switch, where the visuals are a bit cluttered. But Kishimoto seemed to know there was a problem, and admitted that the game “has a long way to go.”
“Sorry I didn’t contact you until now because we’ve been busy since the release date,” Kishimoto tweeted on Friday (November 11, GamesRadar’s translation).I’m glad the release date has arrived [Sonic Frontiers] Seems to have reached everyone safely.
“We’re checking what critics and players are saying. As you pointed out, we still have a long way to go, and we’ll take it as seriously as the global playtest.”
Obviously, it’s not clear if the wording in Japanese is just as strange, since treating the release of a literal Sonic the Hedgehog game as a playtest doesn’t seem like the best move. But then again, this latest entry does mark a pretty big change for the series, so this game is more of a major test of the franchise’s future than anything else, maybe not entirely underwhelming strange.
iGamesNews has no reviews for Sonic Frontiers, but overall the game has received mixed reviews. On the higher score, VGC gave it a 4/5, calling it “the best 3D Sonic game in years”, while GamesRadar gave it a 2/5, saying “developing Sonic Open World is a An ambitious effort? Yes. Did it pay off? Absolutely not.”
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Kishimoto means by “still a long way to go” and whether the team can improve on the foundation they’ve laid.
I’m sorry I can’t reach you because I’ve been very busy since the day of posting. As the release date approaches, I’m relieved that it seems to have reached everyone safely. We are checking the opinions of the reviewers and everyone. As you pointed out, we still have a long way to go and we consider this a global playtest.
