Apple made some announcements today. Alongside the new MacBook Pro models and the Mac Mini, the HomePod is making its way back into the Apple family. Apart from the hardware announcements, the release window for iOS 16.3 was surprisingly announced today.

According to the announcement, a brand new wallpaper for the iPhone will be released as part of the update. Again, this wallpaper is based on a new Apple Watch face. A themed bracelet will also be released and will be delivered on January 24th. The release of iOS 16.3 will therefore probably take place at the beginning of next week
The Unity 2023 watch face will be available next week and requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or later with watchOS 9.3 and iPhone 8 or later and iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later with iOS 16.3.

Update to iOS 16.3: This is new
Unlike the previous update, iOS 16.3 mostly offers bug fixes. Nevertheless, we don’t want to withhold the highlights of the update from you and summarize them for you:
- Physical key support to protect Apple ID: A physical key can be set up as a second level of two-factor authentication to increase the protection of the Apple ID.
- HomePod Handoff: When the iPhone is near a HomePod, brief instructions on how to use the handoff feature appear. With this feature you can stream audio content such as music, podcasts or phone calls to the HomePod via the iPhone. The new HomePod generation can be pre-ordered from Apple’s website today.
- The name of Emergency SOS is adjusted in the settings
In the last beta version, the emergency call SOS procedure was revised. It remains to be seen whether this change will be included in the upcoming update.
We also assume that in addition to the iPhone update, the new versions for iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch will also be rolled out. After all, the new MacBooks, Mac Minis and HomePods will also be delivered on January 24th.
