IOS GUIDE: USING ACCESSORIES

You can also watch films, series and other content on the large projector screen under Apple iOS. To do this, however, you must first connect your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Connect iPhone or iPad to the projector/TV via HDMI/VGA

  2. Wireless connection via Apple TV

You can connect your iPhone or iPad to your projector in just a few minutes. You can show presentations directly from your mobile device on the big screen or you can stream your favorite series and films from there. In the past, something like this was only possible with notebooks, today a simple smartphone or tablet from Apple is sufficient.

In the following, we will explain step by step how you can connect your Apple device to the projector in no time at all and bring the image to the big screen.

Connect iPhone or iPad to the projector/TV via HDMI/VGA

Probably the simplest variant is to connect the Apple device directly to a beamer, a TV set or a computer monitor. All three playback devices either have at least one HDMI connection for external sources or at least the (older) VGA socket.

If you want to connect your iPhone or iPad to these devices, you only need the HDMI or VGA cable and the corresponding iPad adapter for VGA or HDMI, which is used to connect the iPad to the iPad’s Lightning charging port.

Danger

Older iPads (up to iPad 4) and iPhones (up to iPhone 4S) still have the old dock connector. There are also adapters for VGA and HDMI for this.

There are always inexpensive adapters available online that do not come from Apple. However, these have a frequently changing quality, which is why it is never certain whether and how reliably they work. However, if the original Apple adapters are available, the rest of the procedure is identical for all connection types:

The solution with the direct connection via HDMI or VGA has a big advantage: It can be used at any time on any beamer, TV set or computer monitor. This keeps you flexible and independent of network sockets or the possibly changing WLAN quality. However, there is an even easier method – no adapters are required for this, but an Apple TV.

Wireless connection via Apple TV

With a mobile or permanently installed Apple TV, you save yourself the cable connection between the Apple device and the projector or TV set. The advantage is that with permanently installed devices you only have to be in the same WLAN as the Apple TV in order to transfer photos, videos or the content of apps to the playback device. If necessary, other people can also play back content from their iPhones or iPads on the projector.

If the connection is established, your iPhone or iPad is wirelessly connected to the TV or projector. If the connection fails, here are some solutions to common problems.

troubleshooting

Apple TV and/or iPhone or iPad cannot find a WLAN

If both devices cannot find a WiFi network, most likely there is none. Checks whether WLAN is available and connects iPad and Apple TV. If no WLAN is available, you have to set one up using a hotspot.

Do you use a small router or, if necessary, your smartphone. If the WLAN is active and only one device finds it, the connection quality could cause problems. Change the location of iPad and Apple TV until you find a WiFi signal.

Airplay connection between iPhone, iPad and Apple TV is not possible

If the WLAN connection is established but AirPlay is not possible, this can have two reasons:

  • AirPlay is disabled on the Apple TV: Open the Apple TV settings and select “Airplay”. Switch it to “On”.
  • Devices are on different WiFi networks: There may be more than one WiFi network. Checks whether Apple TV, iPhone or iPad are on the same WLAN.
