Right now, if you want to play Game Pass on your iPhone, you have to do it through a browser, which isn’t terribly inconvenient, but it’s also not the most intuitive thing in the world. There’s actually a Game Pass app on the App Store, but all it does is let you browse the games available through the service and install them remotely to your Xbox or PC. The reason you have to play Game Pass cloud games in the browser is because Apple’s previous policy didn’t allow apps with a game catalog to let you play all the games within the app, unless said game was available separately through the App Store.

But now, in Apple’s policy update, that’s no longer the case. “Today, Apple is introducing new options to help apps worldwide deliver in-app experiences to users, including streaming games and applets,” Apple explained in a developer update. “Developers can now submit an app that can play their catalog Apps for all the games available in the app.” For Game Pass and other cloud streaming services like Nvidia GeForce Now, this means there can be dedicated apps that offer cloud streaming services directly within them. Again, streaming Game Pass in a mobile browser isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it does add a level of convenience that wasn’t there before.
Or at least it’s possible, since there’s no such update for Game Pass yet, although there seems to be no reason for Xbox not to introduce it. Xbox first launched cloud gaming to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in 2020, although it’s technically still in beta for Windows and mobile users. Honestly, it’s a very convenient way to get into a game quickly, although you’ll obviously need a reliable internet connection and it’s not always suitable for visually intensive games.
