With Act 3 of Season 2, the Netflix hit series Arcane has come to an end, but at the same time this should only be the beginning when it comes to other LoL series.
With the release of the third act of season 2, the immensely successful League of Legends series “Arcane” has come to an end on Netflix. The stories of Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce and Viktor may have been told, but fans of the franchise can look forward to more content to come. Because the end of “Arcane” is also the beginning of much more comprehensive plans for further series implementations from the League of Legends universe.
As Riot Games, the animation studio Fortiche and Netflix emphasize, the end of “Arcane” did not come that early and after season 2, because the series would have been canceled. Rather, Season 2 simply marks the end of this particular story arc. At the same time, it is emphasized that the collaboration between Riot Games and Fortiche in the LoL universe is far from over.
There is no announcement of a specific new series yet, but there are several projects at least in the works. Showrunner and co-creator Christian Linke emphasizes that various ideas for various projects in Runeterra are currently being discussed; these could then form the basis for the next animated series.
“We have over 160 champions in our game. There are tons of them where I think, 'I want to know their backstory,'” said Linke. “Fortunately, now is the time for us to think about this and dream big. We have a number of different projects that we are exploring. Nothing is in production yet, but we are really building stories with different tones that too “They shouldn't just feel OK, they should have their own style and tone. That's the next step for us.”
According to Linke, “Arcane” was “pretty dark,” but there were also “lots of fun characters” that could be explored. These include the well-known LoL champions Lulu, Teemo, Amumu, Poppy and Tristana. In general, you want to go to extremes with new shows, i.e. explore different genres. “What do we want to do in terms of horror? What can we do in a more abstract, artistic direction? That's the true power of animation. You're not held back by what reality is. We should take advantage of that.”
