Recently, former BioWare veterans founded Archetype Entertainment, a brand new studio. This now has another prominent newcomer to report, because the writer of the first Mass Effect now also joins the team.
The new developer studio Archetype Entertainment, founded under the direction of Wizards of the Coast, could become more and more interesting for sci-fi fans. After former members of the cult developer BioWare had previously been there to work on a new sci-fi title, there is now positive news again.
With Drew Karpyshyn, another ex-BioWare employee has now joined the studio, who was instrumental in the creation of the cult series Mass Effect. Karpyshyn was the lead writer of the two highly praised first franchise branches, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. He also made a name for himself as a senior writer of the equally extremely successful Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Karpyshyn has now left BioWare after spending more than 18 years of his professional life there. In the future, he will work with his former colleagues James Ohlen and Chad Robertson on Archetype. The new studio reminded him of the "early days" at BioWare.
"When I started at BioWare, everything was fresh and exciting. It was a dream job: Talented people worked together to create epic games like Baldur's Gate, KotOR, Mass Effect or Dragon Age. But the more we grew and the more successful we were the more things have changed ", Karpyshyn explains his farewell to BioWare. It was no longer possible to do what you really loved, but rather had to adapt to the conditions of the market and corresponding studies with new games. "My dream job was just a job; I lost the enthusiasm and excitement I once had," said the writer.
Archetype Entertainment has now brought the passion back. "I can literally feel the magic in the air," continued Karpyshyn. However, he could not yet reveal what the new studio is actually working on.
