Larian recently introduced official mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3, and it turns out that a large number of players are using them.
Considering that the game of Baldur’s Gate 3 is inherently fun, it was always a bit inevitable that mods would be popular with Baldur’s Gate 3 players. After the release of patch 7 on PC last month, there were more than 3 million mods. The download numbers quickly proved this. . Now, Baldur’s Gate 3 officials have shared an update on what players have been seeing in the week since the console patch was released, and yes, it’s clear that the mod is a hit with just about everyone. First off, mods have been downloaded over 22 million times in the month since Patch 7 launched on PC, which is a very healthy number and shows that Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding scene will continue to be successful.

Console players were also quick to start downloading mods, with over 1.7 million mods apparently already downloaded in the first 24 hours after the patch was released to consoles. The toolkit also allows the creation of over 2000 mods, produced by 768 mod authors, and this was done in just one month. But perhaps most shocking of all, over 40% of current gamers (i.e. PC and consoles) are “embracing the utter chaos of mods,” i.e. playing mods.

Modders have indeed begun developing Baldur’s Gate 3 at a rapid pace, as it became possible to make custom maps shortly after the 7th edition patch was initially released, and someone was already working on a custom version of Avernus, Karah’s homeworld. People are already wondering about this, too, as a custom quest mod has you searching for the nose of a clown who lives in a strange circus dimension, just like you.
