direct comparison between red fall and left 4 Dead is understandable, but Arkane says it’s actually its bear far cry.
Chances are, if you saw a game showing a four-player co-op shooter, you’d think “oh hey, it’s like Left 4 Dead.” That’s what a lot of us did with Redfall, but recently accepted Speaking to GamesRadar, Arkane Ricardo Bare’s creative director dived into some of the game’s details, including all the comparisons to classic Valve titles.
“It’s totally understandable for someone to come to that conclusion,” Bare said of the Refall/Left 4 Dead comparison. “There are four playable characters that you can play together and fight against the undead together. But, in terms of the way you play and experience Redfall, it’s nothing like those games. Redfall is more like loading into Far Away.”
Bare explained that “you’re in a big-ass open world” that has “a base where you can talk to NPCs and get side quests. You can go to the quest table and choose story-driven quests. Or you can just not care. These, just go out; pick a direction, start dragging your ass, and then encounter the living world thing we’re doing.” Obviously, this is a big departure from Arkane’s previous games like Dishonored and Deathloop, which did Offers a degree of freedom, but is still mostly linear gameplay.
As GamesRadar noted in its interview, one concern with comparing Redfall to Far Cry is that one of the biggest criticisms of Ubisoft’s game is how large its open world is. Barre said that shouldn’t be a problem because the entire game was played on foot. This means that there are no vehicles to race, so everything is scaled down.
The full interview is worth reading, as we haven’t seen much gameplay yet, and it provides a bigger picture of what we can expect from the game. Redfall was originally scheduled to release last year, but was delayed until this year, along with Starfield.
