It’s a little quiet Armored Core 6: Rubicon Fire Since the game wasn’t shown at E3, it took the lead. Technically, the public didn’t get a new look at the game at all at Summer Game Fest, as the demos took place entirely behind closed doors.
While the press and media watched FromSoftware’s long hands-off demo, the only footage anyone else saw was a bonus feature provided by publisher Bandai Namco. However, the quality of that footage wasn’t great, and we never got a clear look at the game beyond that.
Now, the same footage has been released at a higher quality (4K 60fps), and offers more detailed gameplay than any earlier official footage. The gameplay jumps between ranged combat, which showcases a soft lock-on mechanic, which lets players target multiple enemies and attack them simultaneously, and a more standard hard lock-on mechanic, which lets you control the camera and focus on a single target.
There are obvious Souls inspirations here, but the game is very much a sequel to Armored Core, for obvious reasons. A reality check for Immortal fans must come at 2:33, where we get to see the in-game mech build and assemble.
Not only can you customize each limb individually, but you can also choose which weapons to put where. There are several hardpoints where you can connect your transmitter, and you’ll need to choose a generator that will power everything.
The bottom of the window has more detailed specifications for each component, weight, power consumption, and other statistics about its combat effectiveness. I’m sure someone has snickered to themselves, ‘This is the real core of the armor. ‘”
No one outside of FromSoftware has had access to the game yet, so details on gameplay (and the extent to which it is/isn’t Souls) will likely follow. Until then, we’re looking forward to August 25th, when Armored Core 6: Rubicon’s Fire launches on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
