recent interview elder ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki an ax Chief Designer Masaru Yamamura provides us with information on Armor Core 6.
One of the biggest reveals at The Game Awards last week was from software A new armored core has finally been made, officially titled Armored Core 6: Rubicon’s Fire (presumably nothing to do with juice drinks). In classic FromSoft fashion, the reveal trailer is just a mystery movie that doesn’t really tell us that much. Thankfully, a recent interview with Miyazaki, Yamamura, and IGN gave us the first details on what we can expect from the sequel.
While Miyazaki did have some direction on the project, he was only there at the beginning, with Yamamura taking over and becoming the game’s main director. Of course, one of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind was whether Armored Core 6 would be like the Souls of Damnation games, and Miyazaki quickly put that idea on hold. “No, we didn’t consciously try to channel it into more Soulsborne-type gameplay. First, let me clarify,” Miyazaki explained.
According to Miyazaki, in Armored Core 6, the team revisited the core concept of the series, and what makes it special. “We wanted to start with the assembly side, assembling and customizing your own mech — your air conditioner — and then being able to have a high level of control over the assembled mech.” Throughout the interview, both Miyazaki and Yamamura emphasized, Customizing your mechs will once again be a big part of this sequel, and it’ll be more fleshed out with more resources than its predecessors.
In addition to customizing your mech, Yamamura said “boss battles are the highlight of the game”. Of course, there’s still some FromSoft DNA, as you still need to “read the enemy’s movements”, and both “the enemy and your own machine” are “aggressive and violent in their attacks”.
Don’t expect a massive open world game like Elden Ring, as Yamamura does note that the game will have a “single-player mission-based structure. It’s not fully open-ended – it will stick to the mission-based structure.” You may have noticed There’s mention of a single-player game, and Yamamura confirmed there will be a Versus mode, but didn’t provide any specifics.
Single player is clearly the focus, but you don’t need to have played the other games, even though this is the sixth game in the series. “We wanted to see it as a whole new story,” explains Yamamura. “There’s no direct connection to the previous game in terms of the sequel, it’s a whole new setting, a whole new story for players to enjoy.”
