DC is accelerating the casting process for its new cinematic universe, with both the Green Lantern and Supergirl series making progress.
There have been a lot of rumors regarding the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern series, with early reports that Josh Brolin had been approached for the role, and later reports that he turned it down. However, Deadline reported earlier this week that Kyle Chandler, known for series like Bloodline and films like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, is currently in talks to play the role of Hal. He’s not 100% confirmed yet, but it sounds like he’s the most likely to take on the role. If he’s chosen, it would be the first time the character has appeared in a DC live-action adaptation since the 2011 version starring Ryan Reynolds (and we all know how that turned out).

The show will also feature Green Lantern John Stewart as the newest member of the cast, and the two must solve an Earth murder case in the heartland of America – with casting for John Stewart still a work in progress. Green Lantern was only greenlit in June, despite having been in the works for some time before then, so don’t expect it to hit theaters anytime soon, especially considering casting hasn’t even been finalized yet.
One DCU casting news we can say for sure, though, is that Matthias Schoenaerts (The Danish Girl) will now play the villain in Supergirl. This will apparently be the first live-action Supergirl movie, and it’s based on 2022’s Supergirl: Girl of Tomorrow. In the comics, the main villain is a character called Krem the Yellow Mountain, who kills the father of a young alien girl, who in turn turns to Supergirl for help. Back in April, I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie was tapped to helm the project, which is currently set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
