There has been a lot of news and rumors about Assassin’s Creed lately. While the focus is certainly on the approaching Mirage, numerous other titles are in the works – including Codename Red, which could be released as early as next year, according to new speculation.
About two weeks ago, a report circulated that no less than eleven games within the successful Assassin’s Creed franchise are said to be in the works. The usually well-informed experts from Insider Gaming already suspected at the time that Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red was next on the agenda and could be released as early as 2024.
This information now seems to be solidifying – at least that’s what it says LinkedIn-Profile of a Ubisoft employee. The employee works there in the Business Development & Brand Partnership department and posted a post looking for partners for the “biggest blockbuster in 2024”. That post has been subtly modified since the start of reporting on it and now has no reference to the year 2024.
The most recently released installment is Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla in 2020, followed by Assassin’s Creed: Mirage in October 2023 – it’s the longest gap between two series installments since the franchise’s launch. If the new speculation comes true and Codename Red is actually released next year, then Ubisoft could possibly return to annual releases within the action series. Again, given the number of titles in development, that would make sense as well.
Expectations are particularly high for Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, as the game is set in an era that’s been set in a location fans have been asking for for a long time: Japan. Incidentally, this is also what the original LinkedIn post said: “Assassin’s Creed will finally be set in Japan as a playground! Japan was the most requested history/culture from AC fans.”
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will be the next big game in the series and will take you to ancient Japan.
