This might be the best-kept secret in recent gaming memory, but Ubisoft finally announced it Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Assassin’s Creed: Phantasm has a release date of October 12, according to a new trailer released tonight at the PlayStation Showcase. While the show is (understandably) PS5-centric, Mirage is also coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Check out the trailer below.
Earlier today, we saw a number of Japanese retail chains listing an October 12 release date for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which somewhat spoiled the surprise ahead of tonight’s big PlayStation reveal blowout. Talk about stealth.
While Ubisoft has been silent about Assassin’s Creed Phantom so far, it hasn’t been completely silent. We’ve heard, for example, that the game is expected to be smaller than its predecessors–mainly because fans of the series have been asking for a smaller game, right now.
Mirage centers on the story of Basim, the assassin character we’ve seen before in Valhalla, whose backstory will be fleshed out and studied in greater detail in his hometown in Baghdad. Expect a return to the city-focused, stealth-oriented framework of earlier games in the series.
The game was first revealed in September 2022, and (much like the current announcement…) a series of leaks preceded the official announcement, spoiling the surprise. Ubisoft was keen to convey that Mirage will return to the series’ roots; a smaller, more focused game that sheds some of the RPG bloat that has defined the series in recent years.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches October 12, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
