Assassin’s Creed Phantom is smaller because fans want it

Assassins, Creed, Fans, Phantom, smaller

Assassin’s Creed MirageSet to release sometime this year, the promise is smaller than previous games, and fans of the series are the ones to thank.

Assassin’s Creed Phantasm was released last September (after a series of leaks) and was well received by fans of the series. The last few iterations, like Valhalla and Odyssey, have leaned the game more towards the RPG genre than the stealth-centric gameplay that the first game brought. But Mirage will go back to its roots, and according to a recent GamesRadar interview with Ubisoft creative director Stéphane Boudon, part of the reason behind the downsizing is fans.

“The creation of Mirage was the fusion of multiple inputs,” Boudon said. “The first, of course, came from our community: Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, all great games that promise epic journeys in intense fantasy. Their scope has been calibrated to fulfill these ambitions, Because they both embrace RPG mechanics.

“But among our fans, we started to hear a desire for a character-driven story that focused on the core pillars of the first AC on a more intimate scale. It resonated with us and the developers, and that’s where the project started. ”

Although unsurprisingly, the project isn’t just for the fans. Boudon explained that Ubisoft Bordeaux found Mirage to be the “perfect project” following the release of Valhalla’s first DLC, Wrath of the Druids, because it had a more focused scope and had more time to polish important features, all team members Both hope to meet the demand for small games.

While Mirage might get Assassin’s Creed fans excited, that doesn’t mean Ubisoft is in the best position right now. The developer and publisher recently canceled three unannounced games, and, if you can believe it, Skull and Bones has been delayed yet again. On top of that, Mario + Rabbit: Spark of Hope hasn’t worked out the way Ubisoft had hoped, so things are a bit shaky for the company as a whole at the moment.
