Ubisoft has some of the most promising video games of 2024 on its hands and one of them is undoubtedly Assassin’s Creed Shadows. So far we have been very pleasantly impacted by everything that has been shown and the information that has been revealed, which makes it clear that the French company is willing to give everything to achieve develop one of the best chapters that has been created to date.
These days I have had the opportunity to attend a closed-door presentation in Los Angeles dedicated entirely to showing some of the strongest points of the next installment of the saga. Assassin’s Creed And of course I have to admit that it has completely conquered me. So I’m going to tell you everything I’ve been able to see and why, if you haven’t done so yet, you should keep it in your sights.
Two main characters and companions in arms
The setting of Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes us to the Feudal Japan, late 16th century, at a time in which the team has guaranteed that the beauty of the landscapes and its culture will be appreciated and in which there will also be no shortage of political conflicts. In the midst of all these events there will be two completely different characters: Naoe and Yasuke.
The first will be about a shinobi, while the second is a samurai, although not just any one, since it turns out that it is based on a very prominent historical figure, especially since it turns out that he was the first African samurai. As the plot progresses, it will gradually show the motivations and paths that each one will decide to follow, but what will be very interesting is to see what the point of view of a foreigner will be like.
Despite being very different, both will be allies ready to fight side by side until they forge a relationship that will make them inseparable while they fight against a corrupt presence. All of this will take place on a gigantic and very dynamic map. This will be seen above all in the fact that the weather will be changing as the different seasons of the year pass, which will cause alterations in the environments and how they will look.
Yasuke, a real meat grinder
As I have previously noted, Yasuke’s presence is one of the most determining aspects of the game. For this reason, a large part of the presentation was dedicated to showing in depth what he is capable of. To achieve this, the first part of the demonstration featured this imposing samurai in a town that leaves no doubt about the time and place in which the events take place, because The setting is achieved in a totally outstanding way..
The fact of saying that Yasuke is imposing has a great reason, because on the streets he was passing through he did not go unnoticed at all. All the inhabitants of the area stared at him, some with a surprised look and others with a look of concern, although the striking thing about all this is how everyone was moving away so as not to get in his way at any time. However, there were also some who greeted him, but he was curious how not everyone reacts in the same way.
In any case, moving on to the action, it seemed simply brutal to me, and one of those that will leave you speechless because of the tremendously visceral that it is at certain moments. Yasuke is equipped with two different sets of weapons, with the ability to switch between one and the other at any time. Despite this, the one I saw him perform best with was a kind of spiked mace with which he can wreak real havoc, to the point of turning it into a meat grinder.
I am not going to deny that as soon as the protagonist began to distribute tow, everyone present screamed and there was laughter because of what a beast he is. And every time he starts hitting the enemies he makes them into mincemeat without regardeither by slamming them into the ground or crushing their bodies with the mace, to which is added the ability to perform a type of finisher with which it is possible to burst their heads with the mace or tear their bodies to shreds.
You could say that it is one of the most violent Assassin’s Creed of all, because it also doesn’t hold back when it comes to causing blood to shoot everywhere or form puddles. In fact, this especially happens when you bring out your katana, because in these cases you can pierce the enemies’ chest and throw them into the air, cut their chest from side to side, cut their neck or even go even further and tear off their heads so that they shoot into the air while the blood spurts out.
On the other hand, the scene that appears on the screen when defeating the mini-bosses or the main enemy of each mission is different from that of any other enemy, since in these cases the screen it is dyed in a black and white color and the only thing that does appear in a bright red is the blood, so that everything seems even more wild and violent.
The same mission, two different points of view
The other part of the demo focused exclusively on a mission that offered the possibility of choosing which character it was going to be carried out with. The objective is exactly the same, but the way to approach it is not., since the gameplay is completely different when it comes to choosing which of the two protagonists was going to do it. In the case of Yasuke, you can get an idea from everything discussed so far, so that he is the perfect hero for those who prefer more direct action and are not afraid to confront whoever is necessary.
What’s more, he is so extremely powerful that he is even capable of breaking the enemies’ armor into pieces with his impacts, which serves to weaken them even more, and he even has a kind of shotgun that is at least what is useful to him. so as not to always attack melee. Even so, one of the most curious details that he once again demonstrates why he is so brutal is that he is capable of take a run and take whatever it takesbe it breakable stage elements and even the walls of typical Japanese houses, crossing them without stopping running at any time.
For her part, Naoe’s point of view had nothing to do with it. Like a good shinobi Its gameplay is more stealth-oriented., to go unnoticed and to try to assassinate her adversaries from the shadows without anyone noticing her presence. In this sense, it can move across rooftops or jump anywhere, no matter how narrow it may seem, especially since it is equipped with a hook with which it is capable of clinging to trees and swinging from their branches.
This also allowed me to verify the enormous freedom that players will have to address any situation, beyond the character that has been chosen. More than anything because Naoe can fight directly, annihilate anyone with stealth, jump from rooftops, throw kunai and shurikens to kill from afar, while in the case of exploration there will be no area that will resist him being able to climb any wall, no matter how high it is, thanks to his agility and hook.
Likewise, it is capable of unleash your most characteristic skills of the shinobi, such as camouflaging themselves in bushes so that enemies lose their trail, crawling on the roofs of buildings, running along walls or submerging themselves in water and holding on as long as necessary, since they can use a tube bamboo to breathe without any problem.
Regarding her weapons, Naoe also carries her own sword, although it is undeniable that the one she is most powerful with is her kusarigama, given that at one end there is an extremely sharp scythe and at the other part a very heavy stone that is also capable of crushing enemy soldiers. As if that were not enough, our protagonist will be able to grab the chain and dedicate herself to performing turns with it to take down anyone who receives the impact of this very lethal tool.
I am not going to deny that I would have liked to be able to enjoy all this with a controller in my hands, because enjoying this equally impressive and violent spectacle has to be a joy. Anyway, what is clear to me is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows It is going very strong and will offer more than enough reasons to replay it more than once by opting for different points of view or how the environments change due to dynamic time. In a few months it will be time to check the final result, but so far it can be said that the title is going all out to become a of the biggest surprises of the final stretch of 2024.
