The new Assassin’s Creed Shadows was actually supposed to be shown at the Tokyo Game Show, but the appearance was canceled at short notice. This also applies to planned press previews.
The Tokyo Game Show, the most important Asian games fair, is just around the corner and Ubisoft actually wanted to be there to show the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, that won’t happen after all, as the company changed its plans for the fair at the last minute.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the company apologized for not attending the TGS and justified this with “various circumstances” which, however, were not discussed in detail.
Earlier this year, the new Assassin’s Creed, set in feudal Japan, was criticized in the land of the rising sun. Ubisoft had to face accusations that Japanese history and culture were not accurately represented in the game. This, in turn, led to a statement and an apology from Ubisoft shortly afterwards.
Basically, one could speculate that the absence from the Tokyo Game Show could be related to this whole process, but that does not explain the fact that Ubisoft apparently also canceled press previews of the game at short notice. Insider Gaming citing several sources, that a number of press previews were scheduled for the coming week, but are now not taking place. The date when the corresponding preview embargo was supposed to be lifted was announced during the press events. This apparently will not happen now.
So is there more going on? For the moment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is still scheduled for release on November 12, 2024, but the current circumstances give rise to legitimate speculation that there might be another postponement. We’ll keep you updated!
