Assassin’s Creed Shadows slipped into the new year 2025 at short notice. Now Ubisoft is giving further reasons for the postponement.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, was actually supposed to cause a sensation this fall, but Ubisoft decided at very short notice to postpone the release until the new year 2025. The company has now commented on the issue on the occasion of the publication of new business figures and provides further background information on this decision.
Frederick Duguet, Chief Corporate Finance Officer at Ubisoft, emphasized in this context that the game is basically ready to have all the features on board. The decision to postpone the release again for months is solely related to wanting to deliver a smooth experience.
“We wanted to ensure that the gaming experience is really flawless from day one, that is the purpose of this decision. We have a good view of the game being delivered with a great gaming experience and in excellent quality in mid-February,” he said Ubisoft CFO.
He then goes on to provide further details about the background and confirms that Star Wars Outlaws, which fell short of expectations commercially, also played a role. “Given what we’ve experienced with Star Wars Outlaws, we really need to make sure that we come in here with a flawless experience from day one. Of course, there are always some bugs, but we’ve really been focused on making sure that those are Day one experience is really very well optimized.”
Star Wars Outlaws was released on August 30th, but had trouble achieving even one million copies sold within Ubisoft’s target timeframe.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S from February 14, 2025.
