If you ask about racing simulations, the name Assetto Corsa from the Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni comes up automatically and quite quickly. No wonder, the series is successful and a successor is now in sight.
Something is happening again at Assetto Corsa. It has been known for a long time that the Italian development studio is working on a successor to the popular racing simulation, but the release period for the new game has now been limited via Twitter. Accordingly, Assetto Corsa 2 should appear in spring 2024.
It is still unclear for which platforms the successor will be released, but one can assume that Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will also be on the list in addition to the PC. However, it is still unclear what the status of the planned mobile offshoot of the series is.
The developers have put some numbers on the table to prove the success of Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione. According to this, the two games sold a total of 28 million copies – an impressive number for a very realistic racing simulation.
However, it is somewhat confusing that a turnover of only 104 million dollars is mentioned, especially since Assetto Corsa was and is a full-price game. As one anyalyst explains, the PC versions were self-published by developer Kunos Simulazioni, and the console versions were published by 505 Games, a subsidiary of Digital Bros. The developer was acquired by Digital Bros. in January 2017. Sales will probably be measured by console versions and from 2017 to now.
