Microids, who owns the rights to the Asterix & Obelix saga, goes ahead and drops its previous formula to tackle a brand new project: a 2D beat’em-up. The game mixes the graphics of the comics of the time and a game genre that was very popular in the past and places particular emphasis on nostalgia and sociability. But has the publisher found its new recipe for success? Video response.
Between release and strategy,
Asterix & Obelix: Beat Them All! is a nice beat’em up that is good to play. This is particularly due to its talking universe and engaging artistic direction that makes you want to try it out. After the first few minutes it is clear that this game is not just physical. The moves are varied, the game experience is stimulating and we are sometimes surprised by the difficulty of certain levels. After a few levels, however, the game is easier than at the beginning. The mechanics of the various enemies (and the bosses in particular) quickly become predictable and easy to overcome. The same goes for the few mini-games that are supposed to vary the gaming experience a bit, but struggle to really change it. So if it’s not perfect, this beat’em up from the top of its 50 levels is still very good. Of course, it stands out most of all for its homage to the comics of Goscinny and Uderzo, but that doesn’t mean the background is bad, on the contrary. To live a great experience, both alone and with company.
As a reminder, Asterix & Obelix: Beat them all! will be available on December 2nd for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
