Expected exclusively for PS5 on April 26th, Stellar Blade clearly has strong chemistry with the masterful masterpiece NieR: Automata. Its creator, Yoko Taro, even envies the game Shift Up.
Receiving compliments from the amazing Yoko Taro is not something many can boast about. Stellar Blade is one of the few games selected in this sense and could therefore be an excellent addition to the PS5 catalog. At least that’s what we learn from an interview between the father of NieR Games and the director of the Korean studio Shift Up with IGN Japan.
Stellar Blade: the new unofficial NieR?
As communication around Stellar Blade progressed, the similarities with the great NieR: Automata in particular became more and more obvious. In fact, we embody a kind of synthetic being in the form of a young woman whose goal is to confront the machines and monsters that have forced humanity to leave Earth. Similarities that obviously didn’t go unnoticed by Yoko Taro, the brilliant mind behind the NieR games.
He had the opportunity to speak with Stellar Blade director Hyung-Tae Kim at the IGN Japan microphone. While NieR: Automata remains a monumental video game monument today, Yoko Taro was full of praise for Shift Up’s upcoming title. “ It’s an incredible game. I would even say it’s even better than NieR: Automata. I have known Mr. Kim for a long time and although I am older than him, I consider him my elder in a creative sense.”
Can the title “Shift Up” dethrone such a monument?
In the face of such compliments, the director of Stellar Blade wanted to show humility. “ NieR: Automata has such a unique flavor. The more we talk about it, the more I feel like my game can’t live up to it.
Yoko Taro even goes so far as to minimize the indelible impact that Nier: Automata may have had on the people who played it. “ The game’s story is just a simple remake of Evangelion, there’s nothing really original about it. “. But that’s not to mention the brilliant use of video games as a medium to tell this story, which is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. Regardless, such words of praise set the tone for Stellar Blade. Verdict April 26th on PS5 to watch , whether players will share Yoko Taro’s extremely positive feeling.
