With Babylon’s Fall from Platinum Games, Square Enix wanted to poach a little in the hack ‘n’ slay RPG genre. According to the number of players, however, the attempt failed.
Actually, publisher Square Enix had good hopes for Babylon’s fall. After all, the multiplayer hack’n’slay comes from the renowned Studio Platinum Games, which has hits like Bayonetta or Ner: Automata in its portfolio. However, the player numbers of the PC version on Steam suggest a flop.
A mere 874 concurrent players have peaked since its launch yesterday, and reactions have been mixed. Above all, the users complained about the full price and the monetization via Season Pass and Ingame Store. In addition, there is an unfortunate timing, as many role-players currently prefer to spend in Elden Ring.
Square Enix’s list of flops appears to have added another title. Marvel’s Avengers fell far short of expectations and even the very good Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy failed to meet sales expectations.
