Next year, fans of science fiction and action films will be able to enjoy the return of one of the industry’s most feared monsters: the Predator. Doubly so, too. Along with a lower budget film, the franchise’s big project will be Predator: Badlandsa proposal that promises to bring back the iconic hunter with a completely new approach.
In an interview with the American media Empiredirector Dan Trachtenberg confirmed that, for the first time in the saga, the protagonist will not be a human fleeing or fighting the Predator, but the alien himself. This radical change promises to rethink the franchise’s narrative from its foundations.
“The creature will be the center of attention, leading the charge. He’s still a badass, but there’s something about him that also touches you emotionally. Creating a character that you connect with, but at the same time intimidates the hell out of, has been a challenge.” “Trachtenberg explained. According to the director, this idea arose after the success of the narrative twist introduced in Preywhich revitalized the saga by placing the human characters at the center of a more intimate story.
Trachtenberg also announced that this will be the opportunity to see a Predator like never before: this time it will be “the good guy” in the story, not the villain. This change presents a new narrative challenge, since the monster will be the protagonist and the main focus of the plot. We’ll have to wait to find out how this twist affects the perception of the character and the tone of the film. Predator: Badlands
