Your first meeting with Auntie Ethel in Act 1 is more important than you may have previously thought.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players enjoy so much freedom that no two playthroughs are the same. Every decision can have unforeseeable consequences – and in most cases this is the case.

You can do one in the first act Mistake commit, which blocks a whole series of quests up to Act 3. Where Mistake only applies if your behavior is not part of your self-imposed role play. We’ll explain to you what exactly it’s about and how this mishap doesn’t happen to you.

Just don’t turn your back on this woman!

This report is based on a tip from a fan Reddit. He noticed that you could do something fundamentally wrong in Act 1 when you first meet Auntie Ethel: Don’t turn your back on Ethel and just run away!

Because of course this not particularly nice behavior is allowed by the role-playing game in Baldur’s Gate 3. As a result, you then fall into the fatal trap: instead of a warning text from the brand that fills the screen Hey, you’re just ruining a whole quest line! to be displayed, nothing happens!

Baldur’s Gate 3: How the new number 1 in our RPG ranking made the impossible possible

Auntie Ethel simply goes back to her daily business. The disaster, which is well known to many of you, never runs its course. And as a result, you miss out on the many tasks that extend from the first conversation with the witch to the final act of the game.

The final confrontation with Ethel? The liberation of Vanra? The hidden area beneath the Flushed Mermaid? You will never play these quests! All memories that won’t be burned into your player memory just because you turned your back on the seemingly defenseless lady in Act 1.

And what if I just kill Ethel? Oh, okay, so you’re that kind Held. Well, then of course we don’t want to withhold this answer from you: As far as we know, Ethel will still return in Act 3 and you won’t miss any tasks related to her storyline.

A look at the comments below the Reddit post shows: Many fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 were not yet aware of this fact. That’s why we thought it wouldn’t hurt to point this out to our community too. Be nice to the old lady – until it’s time to stop being nice to her.

Now, of course, we’re interested in: How did you proceed in Act 1? Did you immediately accept Auntie Ethel’s request, as befits shining heroes? Or did you actually just walk away and leave old Vettel behind? Feel free to tell us in the comments how you did it!
