Larian Studios will soon move on from Baldur’s Gate 3 and begin serious work on two “very ambitious” role-playing games. Before the final clap, the game was revealed once again.
The end of Baldur’s Gate 3 is approaching very soon. However, Swen Vincke, president of Larian Studios, hinted that he still has one last mission to complete: authorizing modding. And thanks to the last patch 7, it will arrive in the coming weeks. An update that is currently being tested until July. The release will take place in September, a date not yet announced. After that, the developers will explore their own original licenses.
Baldur’s Gate 3 stronger than Zelda and Spider-Man
In February 2024, Swen Vincke announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 had sold more than 10 million copies on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game was acclaimed with a Metacritic score of 96/100 and received numerous awards. BG3 was the big winner of the 2023 Game Awards with six awards, including “Game of the Year” or “Game of the Year” in French. Everyone agreed: it is one of the best RPGs and best games ever released. Obviously, until recently, he also stood out outside of the ceremony by Geoff Keighley.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been nominated in several categories of the 2024 Gayming Awards, an event that celebrates the representation of LGBTQ+ characters or themes in video games. Without much surprise, the title would compete against certain heavyweights of 2023 for the spot as Game of the Year. It was actually FF16, Thirsty Suitors, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Stray Gods and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Who won? Drum roll… Baldur’s Gate 3! The Larian Studios gem didn’t stop there, as it was also tipped to be the winner of the “Best LGBTQ+ Character” and “Gayming Magazine Readers’ Choice” trophies. It won both awards! As for the character, it was Shadowheart or Ombrecoeur that was preferred by the voters. She competed against Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, Dame Aylin from Baldur’s Gate 3, Jala from Thirsty Suitors, Dion Lesage from Final Fantasy 16 and Tchia from Tchia. With such a track record, the RPG marks the short history of the Gayming Awards, both in terms of nominations and wins.
