We all know that Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are extremely popular, as Larian added official support for them in patch 7. The developers go to great lengths to tell us this, and even let us know who we need to thank for their contribution.
Regardless, now Larian’s publishing director says that embracing mods actually puts Larian ahead on some player statistics in 2024 compared to this time last year, when BG3 was about to enter a holiday season where it started to erase all the GOTY awards it ended up winning. . Seriously, it even looks like it’s possible the Pope just bought it, seeing what all the fuss is about.

Michael Douse shared on Twitter some “interesting data facts” he unearthed while looking at Larian’s sales charts. The first is “Our average daily peak concurrency increased by 3% this year compared to last year”, the second is “Our average daily active ‘users’ increased by 20% compared to last year”, “Average daily Steam Deck user growth “An increase of 61% over last year.”
The exec specifically cited the first two as evidence that “mods are good,” something I’ve been saying for a while now when trying to figure out which of the 1,000+ add-ons was blocking my copy of Skyrim since launch. In response, one user stated that they wish more developers would embrace modding like Larian did by releasing their toolkits and bringing BG3 mods to PC and consoles. “They’re probably afraid that people will change their sexual behavior, so the ratings boards will hunt them down and kill them at night,” Duss replied.

Another interesting bit of information to come out of this new batch of rare Douse tweets is that another copy of Baldur’s Gate 3 has now been sold in Vatican City. Yes, Douse revealed last week that two copies of BG3 had been sold in the Vatican (where the Pope lives), along with an additional wish list, and now Douse is reporting that another sale has been made.
Naturally, Larian’s publishing director immediately assumed that this final edition had been purchased by the Pope himself, because that was interesting. However, as we’ve proven before, iGamesNews is all about facts, so we decided to try and calculate the odds that the Pope actually owns BG3.
As of 2023, the Vatican population is 764. Three copies of BG3 have been sold there. So currently about 0.39% of the Vatican population has BG3, meaning the Pope has a chance of being one of those three. Unless my math is wrong, and it’s last thing on Monday, so that’s most likely the case. Of course, the chances of him having it are slim, but it’s better than nothing.
Based on what Pope has recently tweeted about the New Orleans Saints, I’m pretty sure he has a good chance of becoming a Madden player as well, so hopefully he can find plenty of time between Pope duties to do both. thing.
