There’s an NPC in Baldur’s Gate 3 that, it turns out, is actually a very cute tribute to a fan’s father who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

As early as 2020, when “Baldur’s Gate 3” was still in the early access stage, a user named Solfalia initiated a post on the developer Larian’s forum, thanking the developer for releasing the game even though it was not yet completed. The first act of the game. As Solfalia explained in the post, their father got them into gaming at an early age, “playing many hours of Baldur’s Gate 2 together.” The two had been looking forward to Baldur’s Gate 3, but unfortunately, Solfaria’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, meaning the two could play together that Christmas , even though the game isn’t finished yet.

Now, three years later, Solfalia recently shared a new post on the forum thanking Larian for a different reason. The user explained that they did hang out with their dad over Christmas, but “much later” they received an email from one of Larian’s writers. Solfalia, who referred to the writer as a “superwriter” to protect her privacy, explained, “It turns out my message resonated with quite a few of you because so many of us have been through it. The struggles of having a family member with Alzheimer’s or dementia, Super Writer sent me an email asking if I would like to include something in the game to honor my dad…

“I obviously accepted it and we discussed some details about my dad via email. I told my dad the following Christmas as I wanted to make sure he knew before the disease got too far and he was delighted he asked I did this to say thank you to the team and included a photo of his goofy smiling face.”

This particular NPC is named Golbraith Stredivas, a “renowned mind flayer hunter” who is now retired and “writes every day – hoping to make his Knowledge is passed on to future generations.”

Solfalia went on to explain, “Not only does Goldbraith look like my father, but he has multiple lines of dialogue. There are also some very touching dialogues (at least for me). The different documents in the house are fascinating Wow, the stack of letters between Goldbraith and His Son left me with a lump in my throat. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t burst into tears.”

At this point, Solfalia’s father is now in a nursing home and therefore unable to play the game, but of course the player shares this with his father. “He loved every moment of it. He loved the idea of his character wearing a monocle and was proud that his character had a secret vault of weapons. He still talks about it from time to time in our weekly chats Talk about it.”

It’s moments like these that make it clear why Baldur’s Gate 3 was so special to people last year.
