As part of a steady stream of interesting and advanced Baldur’s Gate 3 modding projects since Larian released its official toolkit, one modder is busy swapping the game’s turn-based combat for real-time combat. After initially being shared in a fairly basic form, their title now features both a work pause button and the ability to engage your party in these crazy skirmishes.
In addition to custom maps and custom missions involving clown noses, moddertinybike’s project to replace BG3’s turn-based combat with RTWP combat similar to the first two Baldur’s Gate games is certainly worthy of attention, and it’s slowly gaining traction develop. Grow into something you can actually use in games with no issues.

In the latest YouTube video, the modders put their work to the test, and they demonstrate the fact that they’ve now successfully made the ally/companion AI work to the point where you can get deep into combat and they’ll actually help You, and have implemented the previously missing pause functionality. Early versions of the mod were limited to player characters, as the likes of Raizel and Kalach could just stand still, and their original code wasn’t prepared for such a thing.
Now, though, you won’t be so alone anymore. While you’re still aboard the Nautilus, Biker hires Raizel and Shadowheart to help them with an early battle. In a description of this latest test video, the mod (which you can view here ) is still in a “very rough draft” state, tinybike adds, “Companion and ally AI (the term “AI” is used very loosely here) )haha) Still very basic, but they can really do something now!”
“A lot of people have said that combat looks really unbalanced, and that’s 100% true,” they explained in the description of a previous test video. “Now, I just want to see if this system works at all. Or is there any other problem? ” “The main challenge right now is that the built-in BG3 combat AI only works in normal turn-based combat. To test it out, I used some simple manual “AI” logic, but I doubt this. Not great for more complex encounters. I’m currently digging into the Osiris API and Larian’s objectives (scripts), looking for a way to poll the built-in AI outside of turn-based combat (“assuming, in this case, you would do what?”).
There’s still a lot of work to do, and a ton of features yet to be implemented – including things like multi-attack, stealth, and haste and initiative. That doesn’t include all the parts that have been added that require further tweaking, but it’s still impressive to see how far this mod has come in such a short time.
