After the monstrous success of Baldur’s Gate 3, whose popularity is no longer in question, we are waiting impatiently for the announcement of a sequel, and obviously it may happen.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the role-playing game that turned the video game world on its head in 2023. We’re still talking about the RPG that won the GOTY (Game of the Year) title against titans like Tears of the Kingdom or Alan Wake 2. That’s a pretty impressive fe at. So we naturally expect a sequel to be revealed in broad daylight. However, at the moment this is not the case, which is quite logical. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have evidence pointing in that direction. And actually this story is starting to smell good.
Baldur’s Gate 4 announced for 2024-2025? And why not ?
We know that Larian Studios is currently working on its next game. The problem is that we don’t know whether it’s Baldur’s Gate 4 or a new work for the Divinity series, among other things. Furthermore, the community itself is divided over this mysterious project. Some want the company to move away from the D&D spirit, others want a new Neverwinter, in short we are in the dark. However, Hasbro, which signed a lucrative licensing deal with the studio for the third game in the series, apparently wants to continue working with the latter.
Nothing is set in stone at the moment. However, this could mean that the company is reaffirming its partnership with Larian to develop a new game (Baldur’s Gate 4?). At least that’s what Hasbro’s senior vice president of digital strategy and licensing seems to want. “ We’re investing aggressively in gaming and seeking the best partners in the world to work on compelling experiences on every platform and in every genre. Last night I was at Larian Studios. I hope we can continue to work with them
We were also informed that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast (who, as a reminder, own the rights to the Dungeons & Dragons series) have a total of 40 games in development. Just that. Is a certain Baldur’s Gate 4 included? Well, we can always hope. In any case, despite the layoffs at Hasbro in 2023, the company does not intend to slow down the development of first-party games. Cynthia Williams, president of the publisher’s gaming division and Wizards of the Coast, personally confirms that the developers were not affected “dramatic”.
