Baldur's Gate III was recently presented in more detail for the first time, and the developers also answered a number of questions. Among other things, it was also about a possible implementation for consoles.

So far, Baldur's Gate III has only been confirmed for PC and the game streaming service Stadia. An early access version is scheduled to become available on both platforms in 2020. So far, no one has commented on the consoles, but what about such a version?
The colleagues from euro Gamer asked this question in an interview with executive producer David Walgrave of Larian Studios and received an interesting answer. When asked about the PC version, Walgrave pointed out that previous games had also been ported to Mac, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation. Reason: If you work on a game for so long, you also want to maximize the number of users.
In terms of Baldur's Gate III, the focus is currently on the PC version, but a console version is by no means off the table and could follow later. However, for most of the players this currently has a catch: The current gen consoles around PS4, Xbox One and probably also the Switch should then probably not be operated with the game.
In this regard, Walgrave says, "I don't think current-gen consoles will be able to get it to work. There are many technical upgrades and updates that we have given the engine, and I don't know if they are would actually run on these platforms. "
If Baldur's Gate III should come for consoles, then probably more for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Walgrave doesn't want to close the door of the (still) current generation, however. "Maybe it could work, but then we would have to reduce the textures and do this and that; it would simply not look that cool anymore," said the executive producer.
