Larian Studios had previously announced that they would release some new information at the Game Awards, and that was indeed the case. The release date was finally an issue.
Baldur’s Gate III has been in Early Access on Steam for what feels like forever. As the game grows and grows there, the question has repeatedly arisen as to whether Larian Studios will eventually be able to finish the role-playing monster. That seems to be the case, slowly but surely, because the developers finally named a specific period at the Game Awards.
Accordingly, Baldur’s Gate III will finally be officially released for the PC in August 2023. There were still no statements about any console versions. Along with the date, the start of pre-orders for the Baldur’s Gate III Collector’s Edition was announced, which, according to a pre-stream, should be limited to 25,000 pieces. The edition comes with a bunch of fancy stuff, including a Mindflayer statue, a massive artbook, the game’s Steam code, a Magic: The Gathering Booster Pack, and more.
Apart from that, Patch 9 of the Early Access version is imminent and should deliver more new game content, including a new playable class. The update is scheduled for December 14 at 7 p.m. as part of the live stream Panel from Hell: Holy Knight on Twitch be presented in more detail. Larian mastermind Swen Vincke and guest Geoff Keighley will chat not only about Update 9, but also the Game Awards announcements.
Larian Studios has been working on the third part of the legendary role-playing game series, which was created by Interplay and Bioware, since 2017 and has been in Early Access since October 2020. Following the release of the highly acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin II, Larian Studios was able to convince licensee Wizards of the Coast to develop a third installment in the series.
