Want more Peaky Blinders after watching season six? You’re in luck, because the plan was to make a movie – released by Netflix – to wrap it all up. Cillian Murphy is in the cast, and more recently, Rebecca Ferguson from Mission: Impossible and Dune has joined. Now, Barry Keoghan has added even more star power to the series.

The news came via Deadline , but no details were revealed about his and Ferguson’s characters. That said, considering they’re both busy with big-screen work these days, their inclusion suggests that Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders’ long-running storyline may have saved the best for last.

British director Tom Harper (The Aeronauts, Hearts of Stone) is directing the film, which, as far as we know, will be released exclusively through Netflix. While the idea of bringing the finale of Peaky Blinders to the big screen might be tempting, the streaming giant has been very adamant about its release strategy, with few films getting (limited) theatrical releases.

Plot details are still a secret, but the ending has been written by series creator Steven Knight, who previously told the outlet that the story will be set during World War II. However, it remains to be seen whether this idea works. Production is expected to begin later this year, so we don’t expect the show to be released before the end of 2025.

Keoghan has been doing really well in recent movies and TV shows like Saltburn and Apple TV’s Skylords, but it was probably his role in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisheline that made everyone aware that we should keep an eye on him. There’s a good chance he’ll appear again in Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel as that universe’s version of the Joker, but for now (after the failure of Marvel Studios’ The Eternals), he’s enjoying a healthy and varied career filled with offbeat projects.

As for Knight, Lucasfilm is reportedly still working with him to continue writing and refining the script for the upcoming Star Wars film, which stars Daisy Ridley and is set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
