We finally know more about the future of the DC cinematic universe! James Gunn revealed the big plans, which include films about Batman & Robin, Superman and Swamp Thing.
Over the past few months, nervous DC fans have gradually learned which film series and cast members will no longer be part of the DCEU in the future, but there has been no information on actual planned projects. However, James Gunn, the new creative mind behind the new superhero phase, promised news for January 2023 and kept his promise – on the last day of the month.
Several, but not all, projects for the coming years were announced. Here is an overview of the new films and series:
- Creature Commandos – Animated TV Series
- Waller – TV-Series
- Superman Legacy – Movie
- Lanterns – TV-Series
- The Authority – Movie
- Paradise Lost – TV-Series
- The Brave and the Bold
- Booster Gold – TV-Series
- Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Movie
- Swamp Thing – Movie
It is striking that Gunn and his colleague Peter Safran have decided on many projects whose templates should only mean something to real DC fans. ‘Waller’, about Amanda Waller, is a spin-off of Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ series, ‘The Brave and the Bold’ introduces a new Batman and his son Damien Wayne as Robin in the first chapter of the new DC era, the was announced under the title “Gods and Monsters”.
While “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”, “The Flash”, “Blue Beetle” and “Aquaman 2” still represent the remnants of the old DC universe, “The Batman 2” and “Joker 2”, just like their predecessors, apart from the new DC projects in the “DC Elseworlds” division and are therefore not in danger of being stamped out for the sake of new plans.
In any case, the fear that DC wants to orientate itself too much towards Marvel does not seem to be true at the moment. After the first phase of the DC universe, which was strongly influenced by Zack Snyder, you now simply dare to restart, as has often been the case in the world of comics. Films, series and games are to be linked even more closely.
