EA and DICE are trying to salvage what can be salvaged when it comes to Battlefield 2042. For this reason, they are now making a sweeping attack: In addition to new content in Season 3, there will soon also be free test phases. The shooter also ends up in two popular subscription models.
As part of a video update, EA and DICE announced several news about Battlefield 2042 today. The current part of the shooter series is generally considered a flop and recently had significantly fewer players than the older but much more popular Battlefield 1. Nevertheless, the two companies are of course not giving up and want to keep existing players on board and add new gamers to win.
In terms of content, season 3 is next on the agenda. This will include a new Specialist, a new map, a new Battle Pass, and additional content for Portal. Specialists will also be revised and adjusted as part of the new season. All characters have been assigned to one of four classes; gear available for each class has been adjusted.
On cards, “Manifest” and “Upheaval” will be revised; these can be seen, among other things, in flyover videos as part of the presentation. There are also new archive weapons – and Season 4 will build on that overall. Because: This next season is already in the planning phase.
However, the shooter is supposed to attract new players through free access phases. In these you can temporarily try out the entire game for free on the respective platform. As part of the Free Access Periods, you’ll also receive the Welcome Pack, which includes a collection of new cosmetic items and immediate access to Season 1 and Season 2 Specialists Liz and Crawford Remastered maps from the original Battlefield 2042 – plus six game modes, over 100 weapons and gadgets, and over 40 powerful vehicles.
During the Free Access periods, you can also unlock Standard Battle Pass content tiers and purchase the Premium Battle Pass to access additional tiers. If you then decide to buy the full version, you can also transfer the progress you have made.

- PlayStation: December 16, 5 p.m. to December 23, 5 p.m
