Battlefield 2042 was already decried as a flop after its release and fell short of expectations, but DICE remained stubborn and continually made improvements. In recent months there have been greater successes in terms of player numbers – and this is now apparently leading to the title continuing in 2024.
Battlefield 2042 has been written off many times, but the shooter has always turned out to be a stand-up man. Despite recent successes in terms of player numbers, it seemed unlikely that things would continue after Season 6 – but far from it.
Today DICE announced that Battlefield 2042 will also receive a Season 7. A rough start date has already been set: the new season is scheduled to start in March 2024.
This fact is also surprising in that Battlefield 2042, which will be released in autumn 2021, is entering its third year of content – and that goes beyond the classic support cycle of a Battlefield game. And: DICE is by no means baking small rolls, because according to official information, the new season will be “massive” with “tons of content” – including new maps (in the plural, mind you).
All previous seasons in the shooter have also included the launch of a single new map; There were also revisions to one or two launch maps. Deviating from this, Season 7 will probably now have at least two completely new maps to offer. However, we can probably only expect further details about the new season next year.
Battlefield 2042 was actually expected to end after Season 5; The release of the sixth season was already a surprise. Thanks to free game phases and larger discounts on the full version, the former flop shooter has recently gained significantly in popularity. Among other things, a new record for simultaneous gamers of the title on Steam was set.
