be careful when playing final fantasy 16as at a certain point in the game it appears to shut down the PS5 due to overheating.
Final Fantasy 16 is clearly a fairly visually intensive game, so it’s not a surprise to hear that it might be giving the PS5 a boost in some ways – especially considering it’s Square Enix’s exclusive on the platform. The first big game made for it. Now, as spotted by Push Square, players are reporting that their PS5s are overheating, especially because of one scene. Twitter user Adrian Liew shared screenshots of the scene in question (you can check out their tweet below), so you can prepare for the possible shutdown of the PS5.

Other players have pointed out similar issues on the Final Fantasy subreddit, with many players pointing out that they are in graphics mode specifically. As with many graphics modes, the priority is graphical fidelity over smooth performance and solid frame rates. But that’s not necessarily what’s causing the problem, as some people who have played the game in performance mode have also found their consoles to crash in related scenarios.
One suggestion I’ve seen is to remove dust from the PS5, as this could exacerbate overheating issues. Another Twitter user, Allison Pinhoshared that they’re dealing with the issue, but they did notice that their PS5 wasn’t full of dust and was in a well-ventilated area, so apparently this issue isn’t limited to consoles that need to be cleaned.
While the game seems to give people some problems, those who manage to get past the scene will find a good game that goes above and beyond – one with great action combat and a strong storyline, albeit with a few crappy ones. Pacing and weak RPG systems, as mentioned in our Final Fantasy XVI review.
