Who is Shirley Curry?

Curry was born in 1936, long before the first video games appeared. She only discovered the PC in her second life. Before retiring in 1991, the American worked as a secretary in a candy factory and later as a saleswoman at the US retail chain Kmart.

During her retirement, Curry began playing the turn-based strategy classic Civilization 2 in 1996 after being introduced to it by her son. The computer games became a hobby for Curry that she never let go of. After setting up a YouTube channel in 2011 to watch others play, Shirley Curry began uploading her own commented gameplay videos in 2015 – of Skyrim, of course.

Curry is extremely successful with her videos. In 2022, she hit the one million subscriber mark on YouTube and received her golden play button. Bethesda also noticed her and promised to immortalize her as an NPC in the next Elder Scrolls installment. However, Curry will probably no longer stream it.

Why does she stop?

In short, age is taking its toll on Curry. Just in time for an upcoming eye operation, the well-known YouTuber announced that she would no longer be recording any new gaming videos. The operation itself only had a limited impact on this – she is doing well, says Curry.

However, at 88 years of age, she is simply too old and tiredto continue with YouTube. She simply doesn’t enjoy video production anymore. We have included the entire farewell video of the Skyrim grandma below:

Curry had already suffered a stroke two years agoafter which she had to struggle to get back into the life of a YouTuber. The stroke had robbed her of all memories of her numerous adventures in Skyrim.

But Shirley Curry doesn’t want to disappear from the Internet completely. She promised to post updates on her health from time to time. If she feels like it, she’ll even post them in video form. Curry has also made a resolution: she definitely wants to play The Elder Scrolls 6 before she dies – just for herself and not in front of the camera.
