Best of 2022: Vampire Survivor – Tom’s Only Real Choice

Choice, real, Survivor, Toms, Vampire

I tend to get bored of the hot new game. This out of nowhere game is called Molyneux’s second (third? fourth?). Everyone on social was, “You MUST!! PLAY THIS GAME. THIS IS AMAZING! 1!” My crap sensor went into overdrive and I was basically forced to stay as far away from that game as possible.i wish i didn’t vampire survivor.

That’s why everyone should play Vampire Survivor.

Although Vampire Survivor launched in Early Access on December 17, 2021, it won’t really make an impact until 2022. Rumors started at the beginning of the year. I ignored them. The sound is getting louder. I wear ear defenders. The game was announced as xbox and game pass. I turned my nose up. What is it about this ancient-looking game that has captivated so many people? I, I decided, would not fall into the hype trap…or so I thought.

Long story short, I played the Xbox version on Game Pass and was hooked. I installed the game on Steam Deck shortly after, and the rest is history. It’s easily the game I’ve played the most this year, despite the fact that it’s a game where you really don’t do that much.

Trying to explain how great Vampire Survivor is is really takes the words of a better writer than me, but I’ll do my best. This simple-looking action game has you navigating 2D open world levels as your character automatically attacks with a variety of weapons that you acquire as you play. The more you play, the more upgrades you can make, and successful runs end with your character screwing up everything as long as it exists in the space. A proper badass. It feels great.

I think I still have a lot of Vampire Survivors worth watching, not even considering the cheap DLC. I’m still treated to “WTF just happened” moments, which keep me on the verge of Googling and not being able to answer things I really don’t want to explain. I have to stay strong.

You really have to play it to believe it.

If you’re reading this and haven’t played Vampire Survivors yet, it comes with the biggest recommendation any video game can get: my compliments. It’s a great game, and one that’s available on many platforms for a small fee. Don’t be like me. Embrace the hype. Revel in it and have fun.

I was going to talk about some of the other games I enjoyed this year (like The Last of Us: Part 1, Mario + Rabbit, Star of Hope, Kirby, and Forgotten Lands, etc.) ), but I don’t want to. I’m a tired, aging guy who barely has enough time to play everything I want. The fact that I’m only really playing Vampire Survivors says it all. It’s the game of the year, and it’s not even close.
