There have been a lot of changes internally at Ubisoft, and this includes a Beyond Good & Evil 2 that, despite all odds, is still alive.
It has been 16 years since Ubisoft first announced Beyond Good & Evil 2, after the great success of the first work directed by Michel Ancel. However, it wasn’t until eleven years later that we heard again about this continuation of what was clearly the most hellish development. Despite all odds, he continues on his merry way, with new official signs of life.
New plot twist for Beyond Good & Evil 2
The news surrounding French giant Ubisoft has been turbulent lately, to say the least. Between financial health issues, major changes surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the recent restructuring of the entire team behind Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, a lot is moving internally. This also applies to Beyond Good & Evil 2, which is clearly still very much alive after 16 years of development (and therefore the longest in history).
Despite the departure of Ubisoft’s mastermind Michel Ancel (though he could return at the same time as a certain Rayman) in 2020, Beyond Good & Evil 2 continues to lead its ship as best it can. The restructuring that spelled the death knell for the creation of a sequel to “The Lost Crown” had a particular impact on this eternal Arlesian of the French giant. In fact, several developers were tasked with the war effort surrounding Beyond Good & Evil 2, which appeared to be seeing worrying sales.
Fawzi Mesmar, previously Vice President of Global Creative at Ubisoft and with 20 years of experience in the field, now occupies the position of Creative Director for Beyond Good & Evil 2. According to the latest news, the title would slowly but surely emerge from its long and painful history Development hell. In any case, it recently reached a crucial milestone: positive feedback from management as part of a new presentation. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel, despite the cold shower that the anniversary edition of the first opus caused? At least that’s all we hope for the teams working on it.
