Change of plans for the next Jurassic Park film, with another new director taking the helm. It’s clear that something is moving among the dinosaurs. For the best ?
A new Jurassic Park movie is on the way, that’s no longer a surprise. And the latest news is that David Leitch, known for Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, was set to be behind the camera. But according to the very serious and always very well-informed media magazine Deadline, the chess pieces on Universal Pictures’ chessboard have started moving again and another director is increasingly in charge. Who is it ?
Jurassic Park in good hands
According to Deadline, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have tapped Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Star Wars Rogue One, to direct a new film in the Jurassic Park/World saga. After negotiations with David Leitch failed, the studio quickly chose Edwards, who impressed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall at meetings last week. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2, 2025 and will mark a new take on the Jurassic era, without the return of Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, nor those from the original trilogy such as Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. David Koepp is responsible for the script. It was he who adapted the very first film.
Steven Spielberg will produce the film through Amblin Entertainment, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing. Universal’s Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project. Gareth Edwards is not his first major project, as he directed the hit Godzilla for Legendary, which launched his own universe, followed by four sequels and a current television series, Monarch, produced by Legendary and Apple. He also directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which grossed $1 billion worldwide. His most recent film is “The Creator,” starring John David Washington and Gemma Chan, produced by 20th Century and New Regency.
