An iconic Marvel villain returns in the latest installment of “Hawkeye”. Netzwelt tells you what this means for the future of the MCU.
- In episode 3 of “Hawkeye” the kingpin known from “Daredevil” returns.
- The villain from the Marvel series on Netflix is likely to stir up the MCU in the future.
- The kingpin could make life difficult for all sorts of New York heroes like Spider-Man or Blade.
The 3rd episode of the MCU show “Hawkeye” is here. All Marvel fans are freaking out at the (most likely) return of the “Daredevil” villain Kingpin. Apparently the legendary figure returns and is again played by actor Vincent d’Onofrio.

For all those who have not yet seen the 3rd episode of “Hawkeye”, here is a short excerpt from the show on Disney + – embedded in a tweet:
In a flashback, a young Maya Lopez / Echo (Alaqua Cox) meets her “uncle”, whose face “Hawkeye” viewers unfortunately cannot (yet) see. But due to the physique, the smile and the black suit, it seems extremely certain that we are dealing with the kingpin here.
There were also tons of rumors and leaks about the return of the Kingpin in the lead-up to “Hawkeye,” and Maya Lopez / Echo character appears in the Marvel master comics as well. However, this kingpin will not be the one known from “Daredevil”. Rather, this is likely to be a new version of the comic figure (who is embodied by Vincent d’Onofrio, one of the most popular Marvel Netflix stars).
The Future of the MCU: Will Kingpin Be New York’s New Super Villain?
Much more interesting than the mere fact of Kingpin’s return is the question of the iconic villain’s MCU future. Let’s remember: The Marvel series on Netflix revolved around the so-called “street-level heroes” like Luke Cage or Jessica Jones. You are practically one floor below the Avengers on the streets of New York and fight villains who do not immediately represent a global threat.
Does that ring? Exactly, just such a villain is what we are up against in Kingpin’s case. In the Marvel Comics, Kingpin rules a global criminal empire based in the Fisk Towers in New York.
Of course, this does not come close to the dangerousness of a Thanos, but with a view to the future of the MCU in phase 4, there are a number of attractive possibilities. Kingpin could mutate into a kind of “street level hero” super villain and take on many heroes from New York in the future (should he survive the “Hawkeye” series).
Not only the future of Spider-Man on Disney + after “Spider-Man: No Way Home” comes to mind, but also, for example, the upcoming “Blade” reboot with Mahershala Ali as a daywalker or possible reboots of series such as “Daredevil” on Disney +. So there could be a great future for MCUs ahead of Kingpin.
