The latest crossover episode in the “Law & Order” universe between Elliot Stabler’s new series “Law & Order: Organized Crime” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit“was a real bang in store for long-time viewers and fans. Stabler said to Benson, “I love you.”

Becomes from the former partners now a couple – or how did Elliot Stabler mean his sentence?

Elliot Stabler is on the verge of collapse in Law & Order: Organized Crime

The context is of great importance for the classification of the supposed confession of love: After the violent death of his wife Kathy (Isabel Gillies), Stabler suffers from a post-traumatic stress disorder. The New York police officer doesn’t seem to be sleeping anymore and in episode 4 of his new spin-off again showed extremely erratic behavior.

Stabler’s children then plan one Intervention, a clarifying conversation with her father, to which they also invite Olivia Benson.

During this conversation, Benson said to Stabler: “Elliot, tell us what you need”, whereupon he replies: “I love you.”

“Law & Order” fans start speculating

This sentence is followed by a very long, uncomfortable pause until Stabler says to his assembled children: “I love you all.”

But what is the meaning of his surprising sentence addressed to Benson? Is it a platonic declaration of love or a romantic one? Is he simply looking for the friendly support of the person he has known for years and who has so often stood by him in difficult situations?

Law & Order viewers shouldn’t forget that Stabler’s wife has just been brutally murdered. And shortly afterwards, Stabler explains to his assembled children another woman his love? That seems extremely tactless.

Nevertheless, nothing seems to be ruled out for the future of both series at the moment. “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” will continue for at least 2 more years – namely up to and including season 24

– move on and things are looking good for the future of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” – even if the Stabler spin-off has not yet been officially extended. A romantic future for Stabler and Benson does not seem impossible!
