Windows 11 is far from being as popular as its predecessor, but Microsoft is working hard to constantly improve the new operating system and equip it with new functions. With the latest update, which is called “Moment 2” and is available immediately, the company integrates the new Bing directly into the taskbar and numerous other features. We’ll tell you which ones to expect and how to install the update.
This is how you install the update
Microsoft has started the rollout, but not everyone may receive the update at the same time. To check if it’s ready for you, all you have to do is follow these steps:
- Open your settings with [Windows-Taste]+[I] or vi a the taskbar
- Click on the “Windows Update” category
- Click on “Check for updates” on the right
- If the update labeled KB5022913 ready, you can install it and after a restart the new functions will be available to you.
Bing directly in the taskbar
The biggest new feature is the direct integration of Bing into the taskbar. This means that if you already have access to the preview version of the new Bing, you can access the AI features faster. This story from last week shows us that these are still in an early stage of development:
You are not a good user
– ChatGPT mobs on Bing against its users
Using OpenAI’s language model, you can not only use Bing for search queries, but also for queries in the manner of a human conversation. In contrast to the very popular ChatGPT, Bing has access to information on the Internet and can therefore also provide answers on current topics.
Unfortunately, Bing cannot be operated directly from the taskbar. Instead, a search query opens the Microsoft Edge browser.
Search bar in task manager
The task manager is complemented by a new useful search function. With this you can, for example, quickly find a process by entering the name of the program.
The Snipping Tool is one of the easiest ways to take a screenshot in Windows 11. From now on you can also use it to record your screen. To do this, simply select a section that is to be recorded and start recording.
You can read about other methods for creating screenshots in Windows 11 here:
Notepad with tabs
One of the most useful new features of Windows 11 has been the tabs in Windows Explorer. With the new update you can also create new tabs in the editor in the same window. Simply click on the plus symbol at the top, as you know it from the Internet browser. The keyboard shortcut known for this [Strg]+[T] Unfortunately does not work.
Smartphone Link for iPhones
Smartphone Link, a useful feature for accessing your phone via your Windows PC, will also support iPhones in the future. Previously, the function was only available for Android smartphones. Unfortunately, you don’t get the full range of functions with Smartphone Link with an iPhone. You can see text messages, calls, and contacts, but you can’t view photos, send media, or reply to group chats.
The feature is currently only available to Windows Insiders. In the course of the month it should then be activated for all users.
Windows Studio Effects via Quick Settings
With Windows Studio Effects you can add effects to your webcam and microphone. For example, you can blur the background or use voice focus to emphasize your voice. Until now, you had to call up the program via the Windows settings. With the new update, you can access the effects directly from the quick settings in the lower right corner of the taskbar.
The bottom left corner where the start button was in Windows 10 is now the feed in Windows 11. With a click on it you can see news, weather data or widgets. The new update brings support for third-party widgets. These give you quick access to certain third-party features, such as Spotify song playback.
The selection of widgets is currently very small, but this should quickly increase with the new update.
Taskbar for touch screens
When using your Windows 11 device in tablet mode, you will now see a simplified taskbar that only shows you the network status, battery indicator, volume icon and clock. If you swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen, the taskbar appears as you know it, with slightly larger icons to make touch input easier.
Accessibility improvements
Microsoft makes it a priority that their products can be used by as many people as possible and the new update brings some features that may be useful for people with special needs. The voice output supports more Braille displays and can read them out.
Also, the voice access app is now available to everyone. With this it is possible to control your PC with your voice. For example, you can control the keyboard and mouse, dictate and edit text, and control apps. A detailed Instructions Microsoft itself provides this. Unfortunately, the app only works if you have set your system to English. Europe is not yet supported.
energy recommendations
There is now a new page in Settings called “Energy Recommendations”. Here you will find tips and measures that you can take to reduce your own CO² footprint. Simply follow the steps below:
- Open your settings with [Windows-Taste]+[I]
- Navigate to System -> Performance -> Power Recommendations
- Here you can accept all recommendations or make individual changes by clicking on »Apply all«.
Windows 365 app officially available for Windows 10 and 11
The long-awaited app for Windows 365 is now available to download from the Microsoft Store. The service allows you to stream your Windows environment, including your apps and settings, to a wide range of other devices via the Microsoft Cloud. The app gives you quick access to your cloud PC, making it much easier to switch between desktop and cloud PC.
To be able to use Windows 365, you have to subscribe to the service. The cheapest version of the basic subscription currently costs $28.20 per month.
Do you already have Windows 11 and how do you like the new update? Is there a specific feature you are particularly excited about or wish you had in future updates? Tell us in the comments!
