Big upgrade for the smallest Nvidia Turing GPU: What do players get out of it?

Nvidia's smallest Turing graphics card, namely the Geforce GTX 1650, receives a major upgrade. Instead of obsolete GDDR5, fast GDDR6 video memory is now used. But what does this bring to players in practice?

The technical details in comparison:

GTX 1650 G6 (GDDR6)

GTX 1650 G5 (GDDR5)

Apart from the improved video memory, Nvidia only tweaked the clock speeds, but not necessarily to the advantage of the players. The base clock has been reduced from 1,485 MHz to 1,410 MHz. The boost clock was also reduced by 75 MHz, from 1,665 to 1,590 MHz.

What does that mean for performance?

There is currently only one practical test from Asia. Expreview looks around the GTX 1650 with GDDR6 in purely synthetic benchmarks about 5 to 8 percent before the variant with GDDR5-VRAM (Picture below).

When it comes to games, the GTX 1650 G6 can gain an average of about 6 percent in performance. According to Expreview, the results have fallen short of expectations.

Nvidia should also have little scope, because the company's own products are very densely staggered in the entry-level and lower middle class. There are now several non-Ti, Ti and Super variants of the GTX-16 cards.

Is the GDDR6 variant only available from certain manufacturers?

In short: no. In the past few hours, more and more Nvidia board partners have presented their own versions of the GTX 1650 G6.

At first, however, it seemed as if only a few manufacturers were relying on GDDR6 and thus might have chosen a special route. In the meantime, Nvidia has also adapted the corresponding GTX 1650 product page. There are now two versions – G5 and G6.

What does the GTX 1650 G6 cost? There are currently no prices for the GTX 1650 G6 available. Presumably, like the performance, they will be roughly on the level of the previous GTX 1650.
