As in 2020, there will be no E3 trade fair in 2022 either. This news spread like wildfire on Twitter and has since been officially confirmed by the organizer ESA. But it should not be the final farewell of the fair. We have all the information about the cancellation and some exciting alternatives for you in the summer of games.
No E3 2022 – why?
In a statement to IGN, the organizers announced the reasons for the cancellation. You want to use all resources for the E3 trade fair in the coming year – i.e. 2023. It goes on to say:
We will put all our energies into making a reinvigorated physical and digital E3 happen next summer. Whether you enjoy it on the show floor or from your favorite digital devices, Showcase 2023 will bring the community, media and industry together again – in a completely new format and as an interactive experience. We look forward to bringing E3 2023 fans around the world live from Los Angeles.
In concrete terms, this means that the organizers are at least officially counting on being able to host a classic E3 with visitors again in 2023. In addition, the show will also take place digitally again – a classic hybrid event that has been quite common since the Covid 19 pandemic.
Of course, the gaming summer isn’t going to fall apart because of this cancellation, there are plenty of other events where new titles are unveiled and tons of information is released. 2020 was already a year without the E3. And in 2021 it took place purely digitally – although this event wasn’t bad, it shouldn’t be repeated in this form, according to our editor-in-chief:

E3 2021 shouldn’t set a precedent
What alternatives are there to E3?
Traditionally, a particularly large number of games fairs take place in the summer, including of course gamescom, which this time is being organized as a hybrid event. There are also many other large and small trade fairs.
Summer Game Fest: The show, which will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, will take place in June 2022. Many developers are likely to switch to this event to present their games. Keighley is obviously looking forward to that too:

Xbox Event: Microsoft is also planning its own big event in summer 2022, where many exciting announcements are guaranteed for PC players, such as information about Starfield. There are no details or an exact date yet.
