Bioshock fans were a bit surprised that another update to the titles in the series was released. But the same does not improve anything, but causes frustration among the fans.
BioShock Infinite, BioShock Remastered and BioShock 2 Remastered received a late update a few days ago. However, nothing that makes you happy. Although announced as quality-of-life features, the games have now received an additional 2K launcher, i.e. an additional step when starting the game. You can link your Steam and 2K accounts there and, above all, browse through the store, but above all the launcher causes frustration among the fans.
This not only applies to those who find the launcher simply unnecessary, but especially to players on Linux, and especially Steam Deck, whose SteamOS is massively based on Linux. Apparently, quite a few players are unable to start the games at all. Bioshock Infinite in particular is said to cause massive problems.
Although there is now apparently a workaround via the launch options in the properties, the anger is great and the review bombing has already started. The colleagues from have the workaround to start TheGamer published on their website (not checked yet, please let us know if this works):
The workaround is to go to the Steam launch options for each game. Navigate to the “Properties” menu, then select the “Startup Options” box on the “General” tab (the first box that appears). Copy and paste the following strings into the Start Command field:
BioShock Remastered:
bash -c ‘exec “${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Build\/Final\/BioshockHD.exe}”‘ — %command% -nointro
BioShock 2 Remastered:
bash -c ‘exec “${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Build\/Final\/Bioshock2HD.exe}”‘ — %command% -nointro
BioShock Infinite:
bash -c ‘exec “${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win32\/BioShockInfinite.exe}”‘ — %command% -nointro
