If you want to get to the precious currency Adam very quickly in Bioshock, you cannot avoid the Little Sisters and their protectors. The so-called big daddies are extraordinarily resilient, give out vigorously and are simply not a personality that one likes to meet.
Another special feature of the Big Daddies: They can only be seen permanently in their armor. What is hidden under it? A question that cannot really be answered, at least within the game. However, two somewhat older drawings provide an explanation that, while not entirely new, is still a successful recipe for a nightmare.
When a Big Daddy takes off his helmet
Usually, most big daddies cannot take off their helmets and armor at all, because they are connected to the body itself and form a unit. One of the rare exceptions is Delta, the protagonist from Bioshock 2, who takes off his helmet right at the beginning of the game.
Nonetheless, before the release of Bioshock, the developers of Irrational Games thought about what the Big Daddys could look like underneath the helmet. So much can be revealed: It is not a particularly pleasant sight and what is shown goes far beyond a slightly scarred head.

This picture gives an idea of why Irrational Games decided not to show a helmetless Big Daddy. The artbook also states that the developers deliberately wanted to avoid disclosure within the game.
For the already mentioned Bioshock 2, 2K Marin took over the development. There is no direct exposure of the conventional big daddies either, but the art designers also had their ideas about it. In an artwork you can see how only a pile of skin with flesh appears under the heavy armor, which is still somehow connected to one another.
What about Bioshock 4?
Whether the Big Daddys will come back in the future and their appearance will be explained in more detail remains to be seen. Although it has been known for some time that a new Bioshock is being worked on, many details are not yet available. However, it is likely that the Cloud Chamber development studio will turn to a new scenario:
