First trailer Bio Commando It’s already been released, and it looks like this will be a pretty good first step towards DC’s new cinematic universe.
Next year, DC Films co-CEO James Gunn will direct the Superman movie, which will obviously be the first big start of the new DCU. But it’s not actually the first project, because the first project is Monster Squad, an animated series that Gunn will once again direct, this time focusing on a new group of prisoners against whom Amanda Waller has committed some serious human rights violations. Dubbed “Task Force M,” as distinct from “Task Force X” from “The Suicide Squad,” the new team includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein, Alan Tudy as Doctor Phosphorescent, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovich, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, and Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn as GI Robot — who is presumably also involved in voicing the animal voices for Weasel, a role he also played in “The Suicide Squad.”
Viola Davis will also be returning as Amanda Waller from both Suicide Squad movies, as well as Peacemaker and Black Adam, and Steve Agee will be back as John Economos. The first trailer was released at San Diego Comic-Con, which you can see above, and honestly, it looks pretty good! The character designs are solid, and the style is pretty good. Previously, executive producer Dean Lowry described the show as Gunn’s “first expression” of the tone of the new DCU, so you’ll have a rough idea of what to expect when it hits Max in December.

Plot-wise, you can’t expect much from this show. The official description states: “Monster Squad follows a secret team of imprisoned monsters who are recruited to carry out missions too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.” So, you’ll have to wait until the first full trailer is released to find out more.
