Five years ago the whole world was talking about “Bird Box”. The Netflix horror film starring Sandra Bullock was a smash hit. With the spin-off “Bird Box: Barcelona” the universe is now expanded and the story continues in a certain way. A first trailer reveals more.
As in “Bird Box”, the world is haunted by eerie creatures that make you commit suicide just by looking at them. The few survivors have to fight blindfolded from shelter to shelter. As the title suggests, the spin-off is not set in the USA, but in the Spanish city of Barcelona. There, Sebastian (Mario Casas) is trying to escape the city when he encounters a group he reluctantly joins. Little do they know, however, that something even worse awaits them.
The trailer promises a lot of excitement and horror. Chaos is spreading and the end of the world is even more tangible than in “Bird Box”. The atmosphere is strongly reminiscent of the very similar “A Quiet Place”. The film could also show some parallels thematically.
From July 14th you can already see “Bird Box: Barcelona” on the Netflix streaming service. A direct sequel to the first part with Sandra Bullock is already being discussed. It cannot be ruled out that spin-offs with other cities in focus will follow.
