Is an exclusive agreement with Sony the reason for the hit’s absence from the Xbox? This news is now making the rounds on the Internet – and with it the confusion surrounding the whole matter.
According to the latest insider reports, the matter seemed clear: The current action hit title Black Myth: Wukong is not yet available on the Xbox because there is a technical problem that is causing crashes; this must first be fixed in order to receive the necessary certification. In addition, the less powerful Xbox Series S is also said to play a role, similar to Baldur’s Gate III before it – after all, Microsoft wants to have new titles on both the Xbox Series X and S.
Contrary to these latest reports, it could end up being completely different – or it could be a mixture of all of the reasons mentioned. The fact is: There is now a new report that speaks of an exclusive deal between developer Game Science and Sony, which currently reserves the title for PS5 gamers and explains its absence on the Microsoft console.
The source is Paul Tassi, journalist from Forbes, who is now reporting on such a deal: “A source with knowledge of the situation told me that Black Myth: Wukong is currently not on the Xbox due to an exclusivity agreement. It has not been delayed due to any kind of technical issue there,” said Tassi.
It is worth mentioning that Tassi himself had previously reported that the game was missing from the Xbox due to a technical problem. The statement “The bad news is once again that the Xbox has apparently gotten into a situation like with Baldur’s Gate III” was actually his own.
In short: The confusion surrounding the missing Xbox version of the action game, which is currently causing a sensation on PC and PlayStation 5 and attracting players in droves, is finally complete. In a subsequent tweet, Tassi points out that the statements from Game Science and Microsoft also contradicted each other. While the development studio referred to optimizations of the game for the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft also referred in its own statements to “deals that our partners have concluded with other platform owners, which we cannot comment on.”
It remains to be seen whether and when the title, which achieved over 10 million sales within the first three days, will be released for Xbox consoles. We’ll keep you updated!
