The successful title Black Myth: Wukong is still pending on the Xbox – and Microsoft is apparently partly to blame for this. The story is reminiscent of the circumstances surrounding the Xbox release of Baldur’s Gate III.
The current action game Black Myth: Wukong is currently taking the PC and PlayStation 5 platforms by storm, but Xbox players are left empty-handed. You might think that the culprit is an agreement between the makers and Sony about a timed exclusivity on the PS5, but that’s not the case. There is obviously no such agreement with regard to the title. Rather, Microsoft is said to bear a fair share of the blame for the fact that there is no Xbox version – as was the case with Baldur’s Gate III.
We remember: Baldur’s Gate III was not really taken seriously beforehand, but then won many Game of the Year awards and became a top title – just not on the Xbox. The reason: Microsoft requires that new games for the Xbox can run on both the Xbox Series X and the less powerful Xbox Series S.
The fact that Black Myth: Wukong would not be released on Xbox at launch was first communicated in June. This was later followed by a statement from the Xbox team that they were looking forward to the title on Xbox Series X/S and were actively working with developer Game Science on the implementation.
Now there is a fresh update from Paul Tassi of Forbes, who wants to shed more light on the matter. “The bad news is once again that Xbox seems to have stumbled into a situation like with Baldur’s Gate III,” says Tassi. The reason for the lack of an Xbox release so far is said to be “a technical problem.” His statements are not more specific, but one can only speculate that Black Myth: Wukong should run well on the Xbox Series X, but seems to have problems with the weaker Xbox Series S.
Microsoft has not made any more illuminating statements on this matter and it remains unclear when an Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong will be available. We will keep you updated!
